CHURCH HOME SCHOOL BAPTIST CHURCH

A Brief History

The Church Home School Baptist Church was organized December 18, 2007 in Missouri City, Texas.  The founder and pastor of Church Homes School Baptist Church is Rev. Terry B. Land, MDiv.  Our first meeting was a bible study at the Missouri City Recreation Center.  The families that begin with CHSBC are, the Land, Gibbs, Francis, Hart, Thomas, Battle, Woodard, Miller, Owens, Cherry, Cooper and Clark. The church had our first worship service on Sunday December 23, 2007 at the Missouri City Recreation Center room 210.  We had our weekly worship services at the Missouri City Recreation center and our auxiliary meetings at the Missouri City Library which is located at the same complex located at 1221 Texas Parkway (FM2234), Missouri City, Texas 77459.

The ministry filed for incorporation with the state of Texas and received our letter of incorporation on January 17, 2008 from the Secretary of State in Austin, Texas.   We are incorporated under the name C. H. S. Ministries, Inc..  We also applied for and received our EIN number.  The ministry created bylaws and developed a mission statement.  The ministry established a checking and savings account with Bank of American and an annual budget was created.   A web site was created at the web address www.chsministries.com  to extend our Outreach ministry.  The Church Home School Baptist Church is an entity under the guidelines of C. H. S. Ministries, Inc.  It is in our plans to establish the” C. H. S. Academy/Nursery” and the “C. H. S. Community Center”.

The church established our first outreach ministry in February 2008, the Youth Department and they are the C. H. S. Young Saints, bylaws were created and officers were elected and we begin to have meetings on a monthly basis.  The first assignment given to the Young Saints was to design an emblem for our ministry.  The emblem which is at the top of this page, our stationary and on our web site was a design created by our youth. Our second established ministry is our Missionary society which we call the “Ladies of Grace” (LOG) and bylaws were created and officers were elected.  The responsibilities of the Missionary society are to assist in our communion services, visit the sick and shut in and to nurture our young men, women, youth and assist and serve our senior citizens.

In April 2008 the ministry began the tasks of applying for our 501 (c) 3 status as a non-profit organization.   The ministry received our “Letter of Approval” from the IRS indicating our approval as a 501 (c) 3 organization with the designation as a public charitable non-profit organization on July 1, 2008.  The ministry decided to go forward to obtain acreage for our future campus.  We purchased property in Southeast Houston, Texas.  The ministry with the approval of the Board of Directors of C.H.S. Ministries, Inc. closed on the property which consists of 1.7 acres located on S. Acres Road.  The ministry has had moderate growth and we have fifty plus members in the Church Home School Baptist Church.  It is the vision of the C. H. S. Ministries, Inc. to establish a working network between the entities within our community that includes the Church, the Home and the School.

On October 19, 2008, we began to share a church campus with Greater New Faith Baptist church, 9618 Chesterfield street Houston, Texas.  This church campus enables us to establishing our worship services and meetings on a regular basis. The Church Home School Baptist Church is making plans to begin the construction of our new church campus. The successful completion of this building project is credited largely to our members, our families and our friends who share with our ministry their prayers and financial support. Our new church facility will be constructed on 1.7 acres in the 5300 block of S. Acres Dr. in southeast Houston, Texas. The completion for this project is the 4th quarter 2009.

After two years of prayer, planning and communicating, the big event is here—the groundbreaking celebration for Church Home School Baptist Church new ministry facility. The construction of the new building is not the end of the journey. More times than not, the groundbreaking celebration is the first exciting step to reach out to our community and draw those who are without a church home to CHSBC.  Our groundbreaking ceremony, and other events leading up to the dedication of the new facility, will be the beginning of a new fellowship with our members and our community.

The groundbreaking celebration was held on Sunday December 13, 2009 at 2 p.m. at 5305 S Acres Dr. Houston, Texas. The ceremony began with a song and three scriptures.  A member of the Ladies Of Grace read Psalm 121…a member of the Young Saints read Psalm 127 and a Pastors’ Helper read I Kings 8:26-30 and this was followed by a prayer.

The ceremony then involved the men of CHSBC crossing over and placing twelve stones from the property into one common place as a symbol of “crossing over” to a new phase of our ministry. Joshua 4:1-8 was read as the text for the crossing over.  The groundbreaking ceremony included one shovel for each auxiliary, the Young Saints, the Ladies of Grace and the Pastors’ Helpers and the ground was broken.

As a memorial of this historic event each member was given a jar with the soil from the property and a scripture as a label on the jar.

The groundbreaking ceremony had an additional blessing when three Christians joined the CHSBC family and dedicated their lives to glorify God as CHSBC members. A prayer of supplication was made and the pastor gave the benediction.

After the ceremony the CHSBC church family fellowshipped with friends and family on the new church campus property.
